Compress to 50 KB without uploading anything

Drop your images and each one comes back at or below 50 KB, at the best quality that fits. Nothing is sent anywhere unless you ask for it.

How the size is hit

An encoder takes a quality and answers with a size, never the other way round. So the page tries a quality, looks at the result and halves what is left to search, about nine times per image. Each row says which quality it settled on.

When quality is not enough

A large photo pushed towards a small target runs out of quality before it runs out of pixels. Below 30% the search stops lowering quality and starts shrinking the picture instead, which looks better at the same size. A row that still could not get there says so rather than pretending.

Where 50 KB is the limit

A common limit for passport-style photos on online forms, avatars and images in email signatures, where every recipient downloads the picture again.

For the best result

Portraits compress well. A face at about 600 pixels on its longest edge fits into 50 KB with room to spare.

Questions people ask

What pixel size fits into 50 KB?

For a typical photo about 600 to 800 pixels on the longest edge at good quality. The page finds the balance on its own if you leave the edge empty.

Is the image cropped?

No. Only quality and, if needed, the overall size change. Use the crop tool first if you need a different shape.

Are my images uploaded to compress them?

No. Every attempt at the target size is encoded by your own browser, so the picture never leaves your device.

How does it hit the exact size?

An encoder takes a quality and answers with a size, never the other way round. The page tries a quality, looks at the result and halves what is left to search, about nine times per image.

What if the target is too small for the picture?

Below 30% quality the search stops lowering quality and shrinks the picture instead, which looks better at the same size. A result that still cannot get there says so.
